Adopt A Village In 2005, Atlanta-based neurosurgeon Dr. Paul K. King began organizing a project to provide medical care and donate medical resources to villages in economically developing nations. While in the African coastal village of Prampram, Ghana, he visited the community health facility staffed by nurses and midwives, but no doctor. The center operated with meager resources, limited electricity and water. These observations gave Dr. King the impetus to organize medical missions to the world’s underprivileged regions, beginning with Prampram. This effort is achieved through the Adopt A Village program. With donations of medical equipment, supplies and medicines, in addition to quarterly medical missions, the goal is to provide a conduit and mechanism to improve healthcare capacity in these communities. Adopt A Village (AAV) is a humanitarian medical aid program that utilizes partnerships to collect and deliver medical supplies, equipment and medicines, while employing clinical and technical resources for healthcare delivery.
